Science report: Hot Wheels Long Jump, by Axonn and Jaller

We wanted to find out which car would jump farther, the heavy car or the light car. There were no medium cars. Only heavy and light.

Our variables were the height of the track and the weight of the car.

Here's how we did it.

  1. We set up the track.
  2. We positioned some playdough so that the car would land on it and make a mark.
  3. We picked two cars of different weights (30 gm - 40 gm)
  4. We released them and the 30 gm car went farther.

We found out that the lighter cars went farther than the heavier cars because the effects of gravity on the heavy car resulted in a shorter jump.

Gravity and its effect on the mass creates weight so since the heavy car was heavier, it got pulled down from the air with its own weight.

We found that the higher the point of release, the farther a car can jump.

The formal report is here (downloadable doc file), which we did with a bit of help from Dad.
